We are looking for an experienced Associate Director / Senior Project Structural Engineer to join our friendly and professional team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and technically capable engineer, whether looking to take the next step into a senior leadership role or seeking a new challenge at an established senior level.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the delivery and development of our structural engineering services, taking responsibility for projects ranging from domestic alterations, extensions and refurbishments through to substantial residential, commercial and new-build developments.
Working closely with our Directors, clients and wider design teams, you will have the opportunity to influence projects from initial concept through to completion, with the potential to shape your role around your experience, strengths and career aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design and delivery of a varied portfolio of projects, ensuring technical quality and programme delivery.
- Manage projects from initial instruction through to completion, including budgets, resources and client liaison.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors and other design professionals.
- Undertake structural inspections, building surveys, assessments and technical reporting.
- Prepare, review and check structural calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Prepare fee proposals, manage project budgets and identify opportunities for new business.
- Work closely with the Directors to support the continued development and growth of VKHP.
- For candidates at Associate Director level, contribute to the strategic direction and future development of the business.
About You
We are keen to hear from experienced engineers who can demonstrate:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng), preferably MIStructE or working towards it.
- Strong structural engineering experience, ideally at Senior, Principal or Associate level.
- A strong technical background in structural design, including new-build, refurbishment and structural alteration projects.
- Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships.
- The ability to lead projects independently and provide technical leadership.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and commercially aware approach, with an enthusiasm for delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
- Experience working with historic or heritage buildings would be desirable but is not essential.
Experience with MasterSeries, Tekla Tedds and Structural Designer, and AutoCAD would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
