Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to a Bedford-based engineering consultancy by delivering infrastructure and drainage design for development projects. You will work with a team from feasibility through to detailed design and delivery, liaising with clients and authorities to ensure compliant, practical solutions. You will apply design software to create cost-effective designs and support project delivery, with opportunities for progression. Responsibilities

• Prepare infrastructure designs for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments
• Design surface water and foul drainage systems, including strategies and calculations
• Produce technical drawings, design reports and supporting documentation
• Use design software to develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions
• Liaise with colleagues, clients, local authorities and other stakeholders
• Ensure designs comply with standards and regulatory requirements
• Support project delivery and manage design tasks to meet deadlines

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
• At least two years’ relevant experience in civil engineering consultancy (infrastructure and drainage)
• Strong understanding of infrastructure design principles (surface water and foul drainage)
• Experience using CAD, Civils 3D, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and organisational skills; able to work independently and in a team
• Proactive approach and desire to develop engineering career
• Experience on development-related infrastructure projects and knowledge of drainage standards is beneficial
