Team Manager

Overview

As Team Manager for the S278 Highways Team, you will lead engineers and technicians to deliver developer-funded highway improvements that shape Warwickshire’s transport network. You’ll drive project management, cost control and stakeholder engagement to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity. You’ll coordinate across design disciplines and ensure compliance with standards, legal requirements, and safety policies. This leadership role offers meaningful impact in public infrastructure delivery.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage a team of Engineers and Technicians
• Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
• Solve complex technical and logistical problems
• Undertake S278 works and coordinate with other design disciplines (traffic signals, structural designers, street lighting)
• Manage engineers as project managers to ensure delivery within design standards, legal and safety requirements
• Prepare and manage fee proposals for S278 works, discuss with developers and clients, monitor costs and financial queries
• Provide project management of work packages let to consultants under the professional services framework
• Prepare reports for the Service Manager or Head of EDS
• Manage conflicting priorities in local authority infrastructure delivery
• Operate in a matrix working environment and exercise sound judgement in difficult circumstances

Key requirements

• Experienced Civil Engineer in a leadership role
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement
• Knowledge of S278 processes and highway delivery
• Ability to coordinate cross-discipline design work (traffic signals, street lighting)
• Understanding of internal processes, design standards, legal and health & safety requirements
• Experience in managing cost proposals and financial queries
