In this Principal Engineer role, you guide drainage design direction on major highway and rail schemes, shaping outcomes for clients across the UK. You lead technical quality, set standards for drainage on multidisciplinary projects, and mentor engineers to grow capability. You’ll engage with local authorities and transport bodies to deliver sustainable solutions while advancing the firm’s portfolio and reputation. Responsibilities

• Deliver drainage-related solutions for schemes and problems
• Produce and review feasibility studies, technical reports, and contract documents
• Check and review scheme deliverables and supporting information
• Develop Engineers and Senior Engineers technically
• Monitor and report progress
• Seek innovative, best-value solutions for service delivery

Key requirements

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• Chartered or working towards Chartered/ Incorporated status
• Experience delivering drainage/transportation projects across scheme stages
• Proficiency with drainage modelling software/tools
• Strong understanding of DMRB and/or UK rail standards, SuDS Manual
• Full driving licence for site travel
