Our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to help delivering critical utility infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS from the water, rail or power sector to take a senior role on high-value infrastructure schemes.

You will provide full commercial support across the project lifecycle, from tendering and procurement through cost control, valuation, change management and final account settlement. Working closely with project managers, engineers, clients and supply-chain partners, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably and to programme.

The role

  • Provide commercial management for utility infrastructure projects, including new connections, network reinforcement and multi-disciplinary civil schemes.
  • Prepare, review and manage estimates, budgets, cost plans, forecasts and cash-flow projections.
  • Lead procurement activity, including subcontractor tendering, supplier selection and contract placement.
  • Administer contracts, measure works, assess valuations and manage applications for payment.
  • Identify, price and manage variations, compensation events, claims and change control.
  • Monitor project profitability, mitigate commercial risk and support accurate monthly cost reporting.
  • Negotiate with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve commercially sound outcomes.
  • Support final accounts, dispute avoidance and post-contract commercial close‑out.
  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams to improve estimating accuracy, procurement efficiency and margin performance.

About you

  • Proven Quantity Surveyor experience within the water, rail, power, utilities or wider infrastructure sector.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT or equivalent forms of contract, with experience of subcontract and client‑side commercial management.
  • Excellent cost planning, estimating, valuation, change management and final account experience.
  • Able to manage multiple projects or a high‑value project portfolio.
  • Confident engaging with senior stakeholders, clients, commercial teams and supply‑chain partners.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction or a related discipline is desirable.
  • RICS membership or working towards chartered status is advantageous but not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and offices across the UK.
