Job Description:

Business Development Manager, United Kingdom

Location: UK, home-based, with frequent travel to client and supplier sites

Contract: Permanent, full-time

About our client

Our client is an engineering and inspection group that secures the quality of what its clients’ suppliers manufacture: supplier surveillance, manufacturing and welding inspection, NDT, and QA/QC technical assistance, mainly for the nuclear, power, oil & gas and heavy industry sectors. They are now building their UK presence and are looking for their first dedicated UK business developer.

The role

This is a hands‑on hunter role with full ownership of the UK commercial plan, reporting to the Group Managing Director. You will start from a small existing base and be measured on new accounts opened and order intake. Our client sells technical services (inspection, NDT, QA/QC expertise) on day rates, call‑off contracts and frameworks. This is not a bid‑management or equipment sales role.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and run the UK business plan: sectors, accounts, offer and pricing
  • Win new clients among operators, OEMs, EPC contractors and their supply chains, and secure supplier approvals and AVL registrations
  • Qualify leads, scope needs, and prepare and negotiate proposals with the technical team
  • Develop the existing UK business as the local point of contact for clients
  • Work with operations to staff missions and protect margins
  • Represent the company at UK industry events and associations
  • Maintain the CRM and report monthly on pipeline, order intake, margin and forecast

Target markets

nuclear (new build, SMR, operating fleet, decommissioning), power generation and transmission, oil & gas, hydrogen and process industries, and cross‑border supplier surveillance.

First 24 months (indicative)

  • 0–6 months: commercial plan validated, 40+ target accounts mapped, first 3 supplier approvals launched, £2M qualified pipeline
  • 6–12 months: first new clients signed, £0.8–1M order intake
  • 12–24 months: 5+ active clients, £2M+ annual order intake, first framework agreement

About you

  • 8+ years selling technical services (inspection, NDT, QA/QC, asset integrity, engineering) in the UK industrial market
  • Proven record of opening new accounts and building from a low base
  • Nuclear and/or power sector experience is a strong advantage
  • Understanding of how inspection services are bought, and an active network among UK operators, OEMs and EPC contractors
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / ISO 19443, ASME, RCC‑M and BS EN standards
  • Autonomous, results‑driven, with strong negotiation skills
  • Engineering background strongly preferred; CSWIP/PCN or chartered status a plus
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK

What’s on offer

  • Competitive base salary plus a bonus linked to gross margin on new business
  • Company pension, laptop, phone and travel expenses
  • Direct access to group management and real impact on the UK business
