About the Role:

Why do people behave as they do? What shapes crime, society and care? Help students explore these questions as a Teacher of Social Sciences at a secondary school and sixth form in South Stevenage.

Teach Now is recruiting a versatile practitioner to teach Psychology, Criminology and Health & Social Care from January 2027. You’ll deliver GCSE, BTEC and A Level courses, as applicable to the schools curriculum, helping students develop critical thinking alongside examination and coursework skills.

This role suits an experienced, self-sufficient teacher who can deliver all three subjects confidently with minimal departmental support. You’ll take ownership of planning, delivery and assessment while contributing to a school recognised for strong pastoral care and a vibrant extracurricular programme.

Serving a diverse community, the school combines a Middle School for Years 7–8 with an Upper School for Years 9–13.

Requirements:

  • Strong subject knowledge across Psychology, Criminology and Health & Social Care.
  • Confidence delivering GCSE, BTEC and A Level qualifications independently.
  • Understanding of examination specifications, coursework and assessment requirements.
  • Effective classroom management, organisation and high expectations.
  • Availability from January 2027 and commitment to safeguarding.
  • QTS is preferred. Unqualified teachers with relevant teaching experience and the expertise to deliver all three subjects independently will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan engaging, challenging lessons that meet differing learning needs.
  • Develop schemes of work, resources and assessments aligned with examination specifications.
  • Prepare students for examinations and manage coursework, internal assessment and moderation where applicable.
  • Monitor progress and use assessment evidence to target support.
  • Develop independent learning, critical thinking and subject-specific skills.
  • Maintain positive behaviour and contribute to curriculum development and school life.

Benefits – Our client can offer you:

  • A varied teaching role spanning three Social Sciences subjects.
  • Experience across academic and vocational qualifications.
  • Ownership of planning, teaching and assessment.
  • A school community with strong pastoral care.
  • Opportunities to shape learning and support students future pathways.
