Reporting to the Head of UK Lending Operations, the Loan Operations Officer Manager provides day‑to‑day leadership of the Loan Servicing function across bilateral, syndicated and agency‑related facilities, including term loans, revolving credit facilities, bridging loans, receivables finance, overdrafts and complex fund finance products.
The role is accountable for timely, accurate execution, effective supervision, strong operational controls and high‑quality support to clients and internal stakeholders.
The role encompasses the following principal responsibilities:
- Lead the day‑to‑day Loan Servicing team, allocating workflow, monitoring capacity and priorities, maintaining service levels and providing clear escalation and decision‑making support.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of bilateral, syndicated and agency‑related transactions, including drawdowns, rollovers, repayments, prepayments, settlements, interest and fee billing, amendments and maturity events.
- Ensure new and amended loan records are accurately and promptly maintained in Loan IQ and other relevant systems using approved credit decisions, facility documentation, client instructions, product definitions and operating procedures.
- Maintain effective maker‑checker segregation and perform or oversee approval and release of loan‑servicing transactions, including work prepared by offshore servicing resources.
- Validate that client instructions and supporting documentation have been received through approved channels and are complete, authorised and consistent with facility terms before processing or release.
- Own operational oversight of reconciliations, queue and work‑in‑progress monitoring, past‑due items, exceptions and aged breaks, ensuring timely investigation, remediation and escalation.
- Design, maintain and evidence the Loan Operations control framework, including RCSA and Helios controls, continuous monitoring, control testing support and remediation of findings.
- Create, review and maintain operating instructions, procedures and process documentation, ensuring changes are approved, communicated and embedded before new or amended activity enters business‑as‑usual servicing.
- Produce and analyse operational performance, capacity, SLA and risk indicators for senior management, identifying trends, control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
- Act as the senior operational escalation point for non‑standard transactions and complex servicing matters, coordinating with Front Office, Transaction Management Group, Credit, Finance, Treasury, Client Services, Risk, Technology and external agents as required.
- Provide leadership, coaching, objectives and regular feedback to team members; build capability through cross‑training, succession planning and clear accountability.
- Support operational readiness for new products, migrations and change initiatives, ensuring roles, hand‑offs, system access, controls, training and procedures are defined before implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement and appropriate automation while safeguarding client outcomes, operational resilience and the integrity of the bank’s control environment.
Requirements (Skills/experience):
- Substantial experience in loan operations or loan servicing, including previous people‑management or supervisory responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of bilateral and syndicated lending products and their lifecycle events; fund finance experience, including NAV, capital call and GP/LP facilities, is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of LMA and LSTA‑style loan documentation and the ability to convert contractual terms into practical servicing requirements.
- Advanced Loan IQ experience is essential, including transaction processing, approval, billing, reconciliation and exception handling.
- Demonstrable knowledge of maker‑checker controls, operational risk, RCSA, control monitoring, audit evidence and issue remediation within a regulated banking environment.
- Strong leadership, coaching, workload‑management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to maintain delivery during high‑volume and time‑critical periods.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to challenge unclear, incomplete or out‑of‑scope instructions and escalate material risk promptly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical capability, attention to detail and experience using management information to identify trends, risks and capacity constraints.
- Experience of managing operational change, offshore service delivery or new‑product implementation is desirable.
