The opportunity
Our client is extending their platform from compliance and data governance into cybersecurity. We’re looking for a Senior DBA / Platform Engineer to own the data store at the core of it.
You’ll design and run high-volume analytical data platforms built on ClickHouse, PostgreSQL and cloud object storage. You’ll join a small, fast-moving engineering team and help make key technical decisions from early on. If you enjoy hard data problems at billions-of-rows scale and want real influence over a new product’s architecture, this role is for you.
What you’ll do
- Design, build and operate OLAP data stores, including schema design, partitioning, sharding and lifecycle management.
- Build and run ETL/ELT pipelines for both batch and near-real-time workloads.
- Tune query performance and plan capacity as data volumes grow.
- Use Parquet and object storage (Azure Blob / S3) as a cost-efficient query tier.
- Work with engineers across the team on system integration and platform decisions.
- Hold the platform to a high standard of quality and reliability so clients get a superior experience.
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years in a DBA, data platform or similar engineering role.
- Hands-on OLAP experience.
- Deep knowledge of the MergeTree engine family: partitioning, TTLs, materialised views, Distributed tables and sharding.
- ETL/ELT pipeline design and operation, both batch and near-real-time.
- Experience using Parquet and object storage (Azure Blob or S3) as a query tier.
- Strong query performance tuning and capacity planning skills.
- Excellent SQL and solid PostgreSQL competence.
- A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach, strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Nice to have
- Production ClickHouse experience at billions-of-rows scale.
- Azure platform knowledge: managed identity, Private Link, storage account patterns.
- Lambda-style speed/batch architectures and re-runnable partitions.
- Experience with security event or observability data.
- ClickHouse statistical functions such as quantiles, entropy and windowed aggregates.
- Experience working in Agile teams.

Location and eligibility
This role is based in Northern Ireland. It’s hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days per week in our client’s Belfast office. You must have the right to live and work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.
