Job Description:

Membership Bespoke is delighted to be recruiting a Policy Manager on behalf of a respected Professional Membership Organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a policy professional with experience in data protection, standards or regulatory affairs to contribute to UK, European and international policy initiatives. You will help shape the sector’s response to developments in artificial intelligence, data ethics and GDPR, translating complex issues into practical guidance for members.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will develop policy, support public affairs activity and provide expert guidance on research standards, ethics and self-regulation. Your remit will cover market, opinion, social and specialist healthcare research, working closely with partner associations, regulators and policy stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop policy papers, briefings, guidance and responses to public consultations.
  • Monitor UK, EU and international legislative developments, particularly in data protection, AI, digital ethics and research regulation.
  • Help identify and develop the organisation’s AI policy priorities and strategy.
  • Research, draft and update industry codes of conduct and best practice guidelines.
  • Provide clear written advice to members on codes, ethical standards and data protection requirements.
  • Coordinate standards and public affairs initiatives with European and international research associations.
  • Build relationships with government officials, regulators, professional bodies and industry stakeholders.
  • Support ISO standards initiatives and contribute to GDPR compliance activity, including Data Protection Impact Assessments where required.
  • Prepare policy content for websites, member communications and social media.
  • Represent the organisation and its partners at external meetings and speaking engagements, with occasional UK and European travel.

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in policy, public affairs, regulatory affairs or professional standards, ideally within a membership organisation, trade association, professional body or relevant sector.
  • Strong understanding of data protection and GDPR, with an interest in AI policy and digital ethics.
  • Excellent research, analytical and written communication skills.
  • The ability to interpret complex legislation and explain its practical implications clearly.
  • Experience drafting policy materials, consultation responses, guidance or codes of conduct.
  • Confidence building relationships with members, regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities independently.

Experience in research ethics, healthcare research or industry self-regulation would be particularly valuable.

Membership Bespoke positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
