Technical Project Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead end-to-end delivery of technology initiatives spanning software, Python-based apps and AI within a complex public sector environment. You’ll coordinate cross-functional technical teams and manage delivery plans, dependencies, risks and outcomes to ensure initiatives reach implementation. You will work with software engineers, AI specialists, data teams and senior stakeholders to translate roadmaps into structured delivery plans. You will bring technical understanding to guide delivery, anticipate issues, and maintain momentum. This role offers the chance to influence how AI-enabled solutions are delivered at scale, with a clear impact on public services.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of software, Python and AI projects
• Develop and maintain plans, milestones, resources, budgets and risk registers
• Coordinate software engineers, AI specialists, data professionals, architects and external partners
• Translate product roadmaps into structured delivery plans with Technical Product Owners
• Monitor progress, identify risks and implement mitigations
• Facilitate meetings, workshops and stakeholder updates
• Manage dependencies across teams, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party services
• Ensure alignment with business objectives and agreed outcomes
• Communicate status, risks and decisions to technical teams, stakeholders and leadership
• Support AI-enabled solutions, handling dependencies and integration challenges
• Oversee testing, release planning and deployment to live environments
• Ensure governance, security, data protection and quality standards are embedded
• Manage changing requirements and competing priorities while maintaining delivery focus
• Drive continuous improvement of delivery processes and governance

Key requirements

• Proven experience as a Technical Project Manager, IT Project Manager or Software Delivery Manager
• Experience delivering complex software or digital transformation projects from initiation to delivery
• Strong understanding of software engineering lifecycles and modern development practices
• Technical awareness of Python-based applications and software delivery challenges
• Understanding of AI, ML or generative AI and coordinating related projects
• Experience managing project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks and resources
• Strong stakeholder management including collaboration with technical teams and senior stakeholders
• Experience in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban or hybrid)
• Ability to identify blockers, manage priorities and drive accountability across multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills
• Confidence discussing APIs, system integrations, cloud environments and data flows with engineers
