Senior Pensions Officer

Overview

In this role you will lead the Retirements & Deaths team within the Member Services area, ensuring accurate and timely processing of retirement and death benefits for LGPS members. You will provide expert technical guidance, drive service improvements, and collaborate with employers and stakeholders to enhance the member experience. The position offers the chance to shape pension administration for a large fund and to lead a team delivering compassionate, professional service at critical life moments. Responsibilities

• Leading, managing and developing the Retirements & Deaths team
• Ensuring timely and accurate processing of retirement and death benefit cases
• Monitoring team performance and service standards to meet operational targets
• Providing expert technical advice on LGPS regulations and pension administration
• Supporting the implementation of legislative and procedural changes
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and service delivery
• Managing complex and sensitive member enquiries and escalations
• Collaborating with other operational teams to ensure a seamless member journey

Key requirements

• Significant experience in Local Government Pension Scheme administration
• Detailed knowledge of LGPS legislation and pension administration practices
• Experience of leading, managing or mentoring colleagues within a pension administration environment
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret and apply complex pension regulations
• Excellent communication skills with stakeholders
