Group Engineering Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the engineering function across multiple sites to maintain facilities, plant and equipment while driving continuous improvement and cost control. You will partner with production and site management to reduce downtime, optimise maintenance routines, and ensure safety and quality standards. You’ll oversee budgeting, KPIs and CAPEX, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver reliable, compliant operations. This is a hands-on leadership position with a strong focus on cross-functional collaboration and measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and service facilities across all sites and ensure timely scheduled maintenance.
• Oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Support production with breakdowns, prioritising safety and efficiency, and coordinate downtimes with production schedules.
• Record and manage engineering work requests and handovers before equipment returns to service.
• Manage budgets, KPIs, spare parts, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and costs.
• Lead or support CAPEX projects, assess supplier quotations and drive value for money.
• Develop and mentor the engineering team; conduct performance reviews and training.
• Collaborate with other departments and maintain HSE, HACCP and GMP compliance in engineering activities.
• Support production process improvements and product development to enhance quality and consistency.

Key requirements

• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Experience in engineering maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
• Understanding of PPM, HACCP, health and safety, GMP and relevant industry standards.
• Proven leadership and people-management skills.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Good IT and numerical skills including budget management and KPI reporting.
