Authorised Electrical Operatives – NIE Networks

Company: VickerStock
Apply for the Authorised Electrical Operatives – NIE Networks
Location: Belfast
Job Description:

Vickerstock are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist engineering and automation company to recruit experienced Authorised Electrical Operatives for a contract project based in Belfast.

This is an opportunity to join a ground-mounted substation project involving the installation and commissioning of low-voltage (LV) monitoring equipment within operational NIE Networks substations.

The successful candidates will have previous experience working within electrical utility, distribution network or substation environments and must hold the specific NIE Networks authorisations required for this project.

The Role

Working as part of a minimum two-person team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing LV monitoring units and associated communications equipment.
  • Fitting Rogowski current sensors to designated LV circuits.
  • Installing approved three-phase and neutral voltage-reference connections.
  • Testing and commissioning equipment and confirming live data communications.
  • Completing electronic records, photographs and project close-out documentation.
  • Identifying and reporting defects, unsafe conditions and aborted installations.
  • Working in accordance with approved procedures, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

  • Current D1E authorisation.
  • Current D2E authorisation.
  • Current D7C authorisation specific to NIE Networks substations.
  • Previous experience working with operational LV substations and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with LV switchboards, feeder pillars or distribution cabinets.
  • Experience within an electricity utility, DNO or similar network environment.
  • Experience of electrical testing, commissioning, monitoring or metering equipment.
  • A recognised electrical qualification or equivalent utility training.
  • Current manual-handling and asbestos-awareness training.
  • A full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
  • The ability to travel reliably to project locations throughout Belfast.

Please note: alternative D7 authorisation variations will not be accepted in place of the required D7C substation authorisation. Applications cannot be considered without evidence of current D1E, D2E and D7C authorisations.

Health & Safety Requirements

Safety is paramount when working within operational substations. There is no lone working on this project, and live LV activities require personal supervision by a second appropriately authorised person.

The D1E, D2E and D7C authorisations do not permit network switching. Any LV switching or back-feed activity must be undertaken by a separately authorised NIE Networks Senior Authorised Person (SAP) holding the appropriate LV switching authority.

The Opportunity

This project is offered on a contract or subcontract basis and is strictly Belfast-based. Candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant substation experience, the required authorisations and availability to support the project.

Applicants should be prepared to provide an up-to-date CV, copies of their current authorisations, relevant electrical qualifications and training certificates, details of their previous utility or substation experience, and their current availability and preferred engagement basis.

To speak in absolute confidence about this opportunity please send an up to date CV via the link provided or contact Ruairi McCann, Recruitment Manager at Vickerstock on .

Even if this position is not right for you, we may have others that are. Please visit the Vickerstock website to view a wide selection of our current jobs.
