Payments are the part of Aviy that cannot be wrong. When one of our customers invoices their client, that money is their income, often their rent. “It usually works” is not a passing grade here, and that constraint is what makes the engineering interesting rather than tedious.
You would lead this area: how payments are taken, how we prove every transaction is accounted for, and how money reaches our customers on the schedule they expect.
It is senior work with a lot of autonomy, and it comes with the responsibility that implies.
The work
The work splits roughly into keeping money moving and proving that it did:
- Lead the design and delivery of our payment integrations across providers
- Build processing that behaves correctly under retries, duplicates and partial failure
- Build the reconciliation tooling that shows our numbers and the provider’s agree
- Lead the design for multi-currency settlement and payout scheduling
- Set the standard for how money-handling code is written, reviewed and tested
What we are looking for
Eight or more years in backend engineering, several of them on payments or something else where correctness beats throughput.
We care about instinct here: whether you reach for idempotency without being asked, whether you think about what happens on the third retry, whether you can explain a discrepancy to someone in finance without losing the detail.
Where you work
This role is based in London, with most people in two or three days a week. The rest of the company is remote, so you will not be the only person on a video call — but this particular job is better done in a room with other people, and we would rather say that plainly than discover it six months in.
We sponsor visas for it. Apply from any country: if you are the person we want, we will sponsor your work visa and cover the move — the application fees, the legal costs, and the relocation itself. Our People team runs the process with you rather than handing you a form and wishing you luck.
Pay and the rest of it
£95,000–£130,000 a year, reviewed every year against the market for where you live, plus share options — everyone here owns a piece of the company.
Flexible hours, a budget for whatever laptop and desk you actually want, an annual learning budget, generous paid time off that we check people take, and paid parental leave for every parent however you become one.
