Overview

In this role you join the Ward Patient Catering team at University Hospital Southampton, delivering meals and drinks to patients while providing high-quality hospitality. You take orders via an electronic system, coordinate with hospital kitchens, and interact with patients to ensure a positive, patient-focused service. The position is physical, involving standing for long periods and some manual handling, and offers opportunities to contribute to a caring hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Take orders and deliver meals and drinks to patients
• Provide excellent customer service and patient care
• Operate the electronic ordering system to relay orders to kitchen staff
• Collaborate with hospital kitchens and ward teams to ensure timely delivery
• Adhere to hygiene, safety, and special diet requirements
• Interact with patients daily to support their comfort and wellbeing
• Manage physical demands of the role, including long standing and manual handling

Key requirements

• Numeracy and literacy skills (reading and writing)
• Experience in food service or catering environment (preferred)
• Understanding of hygiene, safety, and special diet awareness
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
