Immigration Senior Associate – Birmingham

Overview

In this role you will lead a varied immigration caseload within an international law firm, combining technical expertise with strong client relations and leadership. You will advise employers on UK business immigration paths and support private clients through complex residence and citizenship matters. The position offers opportunities to shape the immigration practice, contribute to business development, and mentor junior lawyers in a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload of corporate and private client immigration matters with minimal supervision
• Advise employers on Sponsor Licence applications, Skilled Worker, Global Business Mobility, and related routes, plus Right to Work and Home Office compliance
• Support private clients with ILR, citizenship, naturalisation, and family/mobility matters
• Help develop the Immigration practice and grow client relationships
• Prepare articles and briefing papers on immigration developments
• Present at client trainings, seminars, and industry events
• Contribute to pitches, panel reviews, and strategic business development
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers

Key requirements

• 7+ years’ PQE in immigration law (pre-qualification experience considered)
• Technically strong with excellent communication and commercial judgement
• Ability to manage complex matters while building trusted client and colleague relationships
• Leadership capability and willingness to mentor junior lawyers
• Experience advising on Sponsor Licence, Skilled Worker, Global Mobility and related areas
