Location: Luton
Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join a Looked After Children (LAC) team in Luton. You will manage a varied caseload of children and young people who are looked after, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, development and long-term outcomes remain at the centre of all planning. Working in partnership with children, families, foster carers, adopters, education, health professionals and other agencies, you will develop and review care plans that reflect each child’s needs, wishes and identity.

Your responsibilities will include completing high-quality assessments, undertaking statutory visits, preparing reports for reviews and court proceedings, and ensuring that legal and procedural requirements are met. You will contribute to permanence planning, placement stability and transition arrangements, while identifying and responding promptly to safeguarding concerns. You will also support children to maintain appropriate relationships, promote participation in decisions about their lives, and ensure their views are clearly recorded. Accurate case recording, effective information sharing and attendance at relevant meetings will be essential, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities in a demanding environment.

You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with relevant post-qualification experience in children’s social care and an understanding of the looked-after children framework. Experience of care planning, safeguarding, court work and working with foster placements is highly desirable. We are looking for a resilient, reflective and child-focused practitioner who can build trusting relationships, make sound professional decisions and communicate confidently with a range of audiences. A commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, continuous learning and improving outcomes for children and young people is essential. A valid driving licence and access to transport may be required for visits.
