Duty Crime Solicitor – Leicester

Overview

In this role you will handle a varied criminal caseload across Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts, providing clear legal guidance to clients. You will draft documents, prepare files, and represent clients at hearings while collaborating with barristers, investigators, and staff. You’ll stay current with criminal law procedures and best practices, contributing to high-quality, rights-focused advocacy. This position offers frontline courtroom work in Leicester, with a strong emphasis on professional development and diverse, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of criminal matters across Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts
• Provide clear, expert legal advice to clients about their rights and options
• Prepare case files, draft legal documents, and attend pre-trial hearings and trials
• Collaborate with colleagues, including barristers, investigators, and support staff
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation, procedures, and best practices in criminal law

Key requirements

• At least 1 year PQE
• Police Station Accreditation
• Previous experience in a similar role
• Ability to work on the Police Station out of hours rota
• Willingness and ability to travel to different Court centres and Police Stations across Leicester
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
