Backend Engineers

Overview

As a Backend Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior) you will design and build scalable, high-performance backend services that power customer-facing digital products in a financial services context. You’ll collaborate with Product, Design and engineering teams to influence tech choices and advance cloud-based systems. The role offers ownership, opportunities to mentor (senior) and to push for better engineering practices. You’ll work in a hybrid London setup on modern technologies that scale with business needs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services
• Translate complex requirements into robust designs and architectures
• Build and maintain APIs, microservices and data-driven applications
• Contribute to tool choices, frameworks and development practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, pair programming and technical presentations
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices and Agile delivery
• Senior level: provide technical leadership and mentor engineers

Key requirements

• Strong backend development experience using Python with Django, FastAPI or other Python frameworks
• Experience designing scalable, maintainable backend services
• Good understanding of databases, OOP, data structures and distributed systems
• Knowledge of SOLID principles and sound software engineering practices
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
