Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support development and infrastructure projects in Guildford by delivering flood risk assessments and drainage strategies. You will work closely with planning teams and authorities to ensure compliance with policy and standards, while managing project deadlines. You will perform drainage design work and produce technical reports, using key software to support assessments. You will liaise with clients and stakeholders to progress projects and identify opportunities for training and career growth within a collaborative consultancy environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies for proposed developments
• Assess flood risks from rivers, surface water and other sources
• Assist with drainage design, calculations and technical reports
• Use software such as QGIS, AutoCAD and MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage to support assessments and drainage design
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, the Environment Agency and water companies
• Ensure reports and designs meet relevant planning policy, guidance and industry standards
• Manage project deadlines and collaborate with colleagues across planning, transport and infrastructure disciplines

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related subject
• Experience or an interest in flood risk assessment and drainage engineering
• Good written communication and technical report-writing skills
• Familiarity with relevant industry software would be beneficial
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
