Lead AI Architect

Overview

In this role you will define and guide scalable AI-enabled data architectures aligned to Cigna’s data strategy, shaping enterprise AI capabilities for international health. You’ll partner with business, product, engineering, and partners to deliver value while meeting regulatory and security requirements. You’ll lead architectural direction across Generative AI platforms and end-to-end data/AI pipelines, driving innovation, governance, and measurable impact. This is a mission-driven, cross-functional role at scale, shaping how AI transforms health experiences.

Responsibilities

• Define and own enterprise-scale Generative AI platforms for multiple use cases (internal pilots, automation assistants, knowledge discovery, customer-facing AI)
• Set reference target-state data and AI architectures for International Markets in line with enterprise standards
• Act as senior architectural authority ensuring reuse, sustainability, and alignment across AI/landscape
• Embed modern AI/analytics patterns into enterprise data platforms and services
• Monitor emerging AI trends and advise leadership on strategy and adoption paths
• Design patterns and standards for AI model lifecycle, pipelines, feature engineering, and artefacts
• Ensure architectures meet data science/analytics needs (scalability, performance, governance)
• Collaborate with Solution Architects and engineering to translate requirements into end-to-end designs
• Support investment cases and governance across the delivery lifecycle
• Engage stakeholders to ensure cost-effective, outcome-aligned solutions
• Mentor and guide architects and development teams; contribute to capability maturity
• Lead supplier/partner assessments for third-party data and AI solutions
• Provide architecture governance through reviews and standards definition

Key requirements

• Proven leadership of large-scale AI initiatives from PoC to production
• Deep AI/ML architecture expertise with hands-on delivery
• Experience in globally distributed teams and complex stakeholder environments
• Knowledge of LLMs, embeddings, RAG, knowledge bases, multimodal embeddings
• Awareness of AI gateway/model access controls and secure deployments
• Experience with vector databases and semantic search, IDP and document processing tooling
• Familiarity with LangChain/LangGraph or similar workflow orchestration for documents
• Understanding of OCR/NLP/entity linking and document lifecycle management
• End-to-end AI pipelines (ingestion, retrieval, generation, evaluation, rollout)
• Experience in regulated/compliance-sensitive environments (healthcare/finance)
• Strong communication skills, English C2
• Advanced degree in relevant field
