Actuator & Drivetrain Engineer

Own the joint actuators – motors, gearboxes, sensing and thermal – that give the humanoid its torque, speed and compliance.

Key responsibilities:

• Specify, model and select actuators against joint torque and velocity requirements.
• Own gearbox, bearing, backlash and efficiency characterisation.
• Run dynamometer and life testing; own actuator reliability data.
• Work with suppliers on custom and semi-custom actuator builds.

Requirements:

Electromechanical actuator design or selection; BLDC/PMSM motors, harmonic or cycloidal drives, torque sensing; test rig work; robotics, automotive or aerospace background.

The Manchester factory comes online Q1 2027. Roles are recruited ahead of that date, with start dates agreed individually.
