HV Commissioning Manager

Overview

Senior HV Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning across UK HV projects, from planning to energisation and handover. You will manage multiple projects, build and develop a competent team, and be the technical lead for commissioning activities. You’ll collaborate with design, delivery and construction teams, manage client relationships, and uphold safety and industry standards. This is a strategic step beyond hands-on work, offering leadership, technical influence and client-facing impact.

Responsibilities

• Manage commissioning programmes from planning through energisation and handover
• Lead and develop a team of Commissioning Engineers
• Act as technical lead for commissioning matters
• Review and approve commissioning plans, procedures and documentation
• Support FAT and SAT activities
• Coordinate with design, delivery and construction teams for smooth project delivery
• Manage client relationships and progress meetings
• Resolve technical issues during commissioning and testing
• Ensure activities comply with safety rules and company procedures
• Provide technical support for bids and tender submissions

Key requirements

• Experience commissioning HV substations and electrical infrastructure in the UK
• Background with DNO, ICP, OEM, EPC contractor or transmission business
• Previous Senior Authorised Person and/or Commissioning Engineer experience
• Knowledge of substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and HV cable networks
• Understanding of UK safety rules and industry standards
• Experience managing engineers, subcontractors and testing teams
• Strong communication and stakeholder relationship-building skills
• HNC, HND or Degree in Engineering
• Full UK driving licence
