Principal/Associate River Engineer

Overview

In this Principal/Associate River Engineer role, you will lead environmental engineering for nature recovery, rewilding, and river restoration within a multidisciplinary Water Environment team. You’ll deliver high-quality planning, design and construction supervision for nature-based schemes and hydromorphology works, collaborating with regulators, clients and stakeholders. The position offers impact at scale across UK and international projects, shaping resilient waterways and ecosystems. You’ll drive project delivery while upholding safety and design standards.

Responsibilities

• Environmental engineering for nature recovery and river restoration schemes
• River and wetland restoration design and supervision
• River engineering and detailed design in accordance with CDM Regulations
• Preparing designs, safety plans and contractor specifications
• Supervision of contractors and construction works
• Project management of assigned schemes

Key requirements

• Degree in civil engineering or related field
• Proven experience in river and waterway restoration
• Strong project management and delivery track record
• CDM and design safety leadership
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary teams
