Principal Civil Engineer – Water

Overview

In this role you will lead civil engineering delivery for water and wastewater projects, guiding complex infrastructure from feasibility to detailed design while aligning with regulatory and sustainability objectives. You’ll work with cross-functional teams and clients to shape solutions at scale, shaping the water network and asset improvement strategies. The position combines technical leadership with people management and risk-aware delivery in a global, inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, hydraulic modellers, environmental scientists and specialists to deliver projects in the UK and overseas
• Engage with clients to develop scope, pricing, and communicate progress
• Produce feasibility studies, outline designs, detailed designs, reports and technical specifications
• Line management and performance evaluations for junior staff
• Ensure design compliance with standards and regulations; provide interdisciplinary technical support

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree; experience in the water sector
• Chartered or Incorporated with ICE, CIWEM, or approaching chartered status
• Experience in engineering assessments, options appraisals, and/ or economic appraisals
• Experience in outline and detailed design for wastewater or water treatment schemes, flood risk management, or drainage schemes
