Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead mechanical design delivery for complex tasks within a defence-focused environment, guiding multiple experts through design reviews and ensuring high technical standards. You’ll drive improvement during delivery, collaborating with suppliers, customers and cross-functional teams. You’ll apply safety engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle and shape robust, manufacturable solutions. This position offers impact at scale, working on innovative marine and aerospace applications at Gosport.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate mechanical design delivery for complex tasks
• Chair and guide design reviews and pre-reviews with internal and customer stakeholders
• Drive continuous improvement in delivery through technically sound designs and clear reports
• Provide confident technical advice and presentations to customers and peers
• Apply safety engineering tools (HAZID, Safety Cases) across the project lifecycle
• Support governance through safety-focused analysis and design safety case contributions
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers and subject-matter experts to realise solutions
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in competency areas

• Materials Selection, Coatings & Corrosion
• Concept Design & Development
• Significant experience with 3D modeling in Siemens NX (or similar CAD tools)
• Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, customers and SMEs
• SC clearance eligibility
• On-site with limited remote work familiarity
• Ability to work with limited supervision and lead technical teams
