Development Underwriter

Overview

As a Development Underwriter in Scotland, you will drive new commercial P&C business within an established broker panel, operating from home with delegated authority. You will grow the book by winning new agency relationships and expanding the broker network while collaborating with service underwriters and the regional team. Your role combines proactive underwriting with business development to support regional growth. This is a client-facing, field-oriented opportunity in a recognized underwriting team that values relationship-building and performance.

Responsibilities

• Generate and underwrite new commercial P&C business across an established Scotland broker panel
• Strengthen relationships with existing brokers to maximise new business flow
• Identify opportunities for new agency appointments to support regional growth
• Underwrite within delegated authority across SME and mid-market risks
• Collaborate with service underwriters and regional team to service the existing book
• Represent the business professionally across the Scottish broker market

Key requirements

• Commercial P&C underwriting experience, especially SME or mid-market
• Existing broker relationships in Scotland (national or independent)
• Background with a composite insurer, MGA, or similar underwriting environment
• Confidence underwriting a broad range of P&C risks under delegated authority
• Track record of new business production (not solely account management)
• Self-motivated and comfortable with home-based, field-facing work
• Eligible to work from Scotland or Cumbria
