Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services)

Overview

As Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will shape electrical design for major building projects in Solihull, leading design teams on new build and refurbishment schemes. You’ll review subcontractor designs, present proposals to clients, and manage tendering and contractor selection. The role combines technical leadership with project management across private, public, and industrial sectors, offering exposure to high‑impact projects and cross‑team collaboration. You will drive quality, environmental, and financial accountability, shaping the delivery of critical electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare project specifications and concept/detailed designs for new builds and refurbishments
• Review sub-contractor designs and ensure alignment with client requirements
• Develop and present design proposals to clients as lead internal consultant or team member
• Issue tender/documentation and advise on contractor selection
• Assume lead consultant role for project management as defined in the appointment
• Lead electrical design for large projects or a portfolio of smaller projects
• Ensure financial, technical, quality and environmental responsibilities are met for projects

Key requirements

• 7–10 years building services consultancy experience
• Degree qualified in electrical or building services engineering
• Chartered status
• Experience mentoring and leading project teams
• Experience managing financial, technical, quality and environmental aspects of projects
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, Amtech, Relux and Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation
• Ability to lead electrical elements of large projects or multiple smaller projects
