Principal Virtualisation Engineer – Quant trading

Overview

As a Principal Virtualisation Engineer, you will own and evolve the firm’s core virtualization and storage estate in production. You’ll ensure uptime, performance, and stability while shaping the next generation platform through evaluations, proofs of concept, and migration planning. You’ll lead critical infrastructure decisions without disrupting live trading systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, high-availability solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage production virtualization and storage platforms
• Maintain uptime, performance, capacity, and operational stability
• Evaluate new technologies and shape long-term platform strategy
• Run technical evaluations and PoCs across infrastructure options
• Plan and execute storage and virtualization migrations with low risk
• Build automation and internal tooling to improve scalability
• Collaborate with other engineering teams on platform design and integration

Key requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on Linux infrastructure engineering in production
• Strong virtualization background with deep expertise in KVM, VMware, or similar
• Solid understanding of large-scale compute resource management, performance tuning, and high availability
• Enterprise storage experience including SAN environments and storage protocols
• Exposure to software-defined storage platforms
• Automation skills in Python, Golang, or similar
• Ability to own technically complex projects and drive them forward independently
• Clear communicator with practical, engineering-led mindset
