Industrial Placement – Bridge & Civil Structures

Overview

In this industrial placement, you will join Arup’s Bridges and Civil Structures team to work on UK and international bridge and civil projects. You’ll be guided by a Senior Engineer who assigns design tasks and helps you develop software and tools used in delivery. You will contribute across concept through detailed design, calculations, models, and refurbishment assessments. The role emphasises both traditional engineering and emerging digital approaches to solve complex structural challenges. This is a chance to shape high-profile infrastructure while learning in a collaborative, innovative environment.

Responsibilities

• Support project work under the direction of a Senior Engineer
• Assist with design tasks and deliverables
• Learn and apply software/tools developed by the team
• Contribute to concept design, detailed design, calculations, models and specifications
• Assist in assessment and refurbishment of major bridge crossings
• Engage with digital technologies and design automation where appropriate

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering or related field
• Strong numerical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication
