About Nationwide Utilities
Nationwide Utilities helps some of the UK and Europe’s largest and most energy-intensive organisations make smarter commercial decisions across energy procurement, risk management, infrastructure, on-site generation, and wider energy and sustainability strategy. With 25 years of industry expertise and continued investment in AI, data, and growth, this is an opportunity to join a business with real momentum and ambition.
About the Role
We are looking for an established energy sales professional to take a senior player-coach position within our growing new business team. You will carry an individual target, lead larger and higher-value Industrial & Commercial opportunities, and help raise the quality, confidence, and consistency of the wider team.
Reporting directly to the Sales Director, you will be the first point of support for Business Development Managers and own the team’s qualification-to-proposal process. This remains a hands-on sales role: you will self-generate opportunities, engage senior stakeholders, lead complex conversations, and close business. As the team grows, the role is expected to include responsibility for a small number of direct reports.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build and manage a high-quality pipeline focused on larger, complex, multi-site, and energy-intensive organisations.
- Create strategic account and sector plans, map stakeholders, and open doors through research-led outbound activity, referrals, events, and targeted prospecting.
- Lead senior discovery meetings to understand each client’s commercial priorities, procurement position, operational challenges, sustainability goals, and decision-making process.
- Own opportunities through the full sales cycle, from qualification and solution design to proposal, negotiation, and close, while protecting value and margin.
- Coordinate analysts, technical specialists, operational teams, partners, and leadership to build strong, credible, and deliverable client solutions.
- Own and improve standards across the qualification-to-proposal process, including discovery quality, opportunity planning, proposal readiness, CRM discipline, and forecasting.
- Act as the first point of support for Business Development Managers, run regular opportunity reviews, and coach colleagues without taking over their opportunities.
- Support new-starter development and elevate material commercial, strategic, or performance matters to the Sales Director with a clear recommendation.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrable business development or sales experience within the energy sector; prior energy-industry experience is essential.
- Experience gained within an energy consultancy, TPI, or other advisory-led energy services business.
- A proven record of winning higher-value new business with the largerest commercial and industrial organisations, multi-site clients, or energy-intensive users.
- Strong knowledge of the commercial energy market, including procurement, risk management, non-commodity costs, energy services, and wider energy strategy.
- Evidence of self-generating pipeline, opening doors with senior stakeholders, leading complex discovery, shaping tailored proposals, negotiating commercials, and closing business.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting sales colleagues, with the maturity to act as the team’s first point of call.
- Strong CRM, pipeline-management, and forecasting discipline; HubSpot experience would be advantageous.
What You’ll Get
- Competitive base salary and uncapped performance-related earning potential.
- Ownership of strategic accounts and higher-value commercial opportunities.
- A meaningful role in shaping sales standards, team capability, and the future structure of the new business function.
- A clear opportunity to develop into broader sales leadership as the business and team continue to grow.
- Strong internal support across sales, analysts, leadership, operations, and marketing, alongside a modern Kensington office and collaborative working environment.
