At NY Highways, we’re looking for a committed and safety-conscious Highways Operative (with LGV) to work as a Gully Tanker Driver in our Operations team, helping to keep roads and drainage systems safe all year round.

This is more than a driving role. You’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering essential highway maintenance services, operating specialist gully cleansing equipment and responding to emergencies as well as supporting winter maintenance activities when required.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Operate specialist gully tanker vehicles to clean and maintain highway drainage systems.
  • Carry out routine inspections and identify drainage defects or issues requiring further attention.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and maintain accurate records using handheld devices.
  • Support highway maintenance activities, including traffic management and site safety arrangements.Assist with risk assessments and safe systems of work on site.
  • Work closely with colleagues to deliver high-quality services from our local Selby depot.

You’ll also participate in an out-of-hours emergency and winter maintenance rota, including gritting and snow clearance operations when required.

What you’ll bring:

  • Valid HGV/LGV driving licence.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to complete electronic records accurately.
  • Flexibility to participate in emergency and winter call-out rotas.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn new skills and undertake training.

Experience operating gully tankers, vacuum tankers or similar specialist highway maintenance vehicles would be beneficial but not essential. Full training, PPE and support will be provided
