This is not a trainee position. We are looking for an individual who understands the pace and pressures of pallet network operations and can make effective decisions in a fast-moving environment while maintaining exceptional customer service levels.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing daily collections and deliveries across our pallet network operation, ensuring maximum efficiency, service performance and vehicle utilisation.

A strong knowledge of the Peterborough and wider PE postcode area is essential, as this role involves planning multi-drop delivery routes and collection schedules throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning daily pallet network delivery and collection routes for a mixed fleet of vehicles.
  • Managing premium, economy and timed service consignments in line with customer requirements and network KPIs.
  • Maximising vehicle utilisation while maintaining service and cost targets.
  • Managing driver routes and providing support throughout the day for route changes, delays and operational issues.
  • Monitoring vehicle progress and proactively communicating with customers where required.
  • Working closely with warehouse, customer service and operations teams to ensure smooth freight flow.
  • Managing failed deliveries, re-deliveries and service exceptions.
  • Ensuring all planning activities comply with driver hours regulations and transport legislation.
  • Supporting operational performance and identifying opportunities for efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Building strong relationships with drivers, customers, network partners and colleagues.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a transport planning role.
  • Previous pallet network planning experience is essential.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of Peterborough and the PE postcode area.
  • Experience planning multi-drop delivery and collection routes.
  • Strong understanding of pallet network service levels including economy, premium and timed deliveries.
  • Good understanding of vehicle capacities, route optimisation and loading principles.
  • Working knowledge of transport legislation and drivers’ hours regulations.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience using transport management systems.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within general haulage or groupage operations.
  • Previous experience working within a Pall-Ex, Palletways, Palletforce or similar pallet network environment.
  • Experience planning for mixed fleets including 7.5T, 18T and 26T vehicles.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an organised, proactive and commercially aware planner who takes ownership of problems and sees them through to resolution.

The successful candidate will thrive in a busy transport office and understand that no two days in pallet network planning are ever the same.

If you are an experienced planner looking to join a growing and ambitious logistics business where your knowledge and experience will make a real impact, we would like to hear from you.
