Engineering Team Lead

Overview

As Engineering Team Lead, you will steer the Enhanced Search team to deliver powerful Jira Cloud capabilities. You’ll partner with Product, Design, QA, and Documentation to shape the roadmap and champion AI-driven improvements in the software development lifecycle. You’ll mentor a five-strong engineering squad, ensure high-quality delivery, and translate strategy into actionable execution. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical direction, and product collaboration within The Adaptavist Group. You’ll have a meaningful impact by guiding architecture, delivery, and cross-team learning in a remote-first, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a five-strong software engineering team
• Coach engineers on growth, career progression and performance
• Hire and onboard new team members when needed
• Act as escalation point for team challenges
• Set quarterly objectives with Product Management and manage roadmap delivery
• Lead delivery planning, ceremonies and day-to-day execution
• Unblock issues and guide architecture, delivery and engineering decisions
• Own quality, security, compliance, and cost in production
• Run retrospectives and translate insights into improvements
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, Documentation and other leadership to align priorities and share learnings across the org
• Engage with Atlassian and partners on technical issues
• Shape wider engineering culture and practices across Adaptavist’s product org

Key requirements

• Strong technical background in Java, TypeScript or Python
• Experience leading software engineering teams with coaching responsibilities
• Experience using AI coding tools in a team setting
• Experience delivering in agile environments (Scrum, Kanban)
• Experience building and operating services on AWS with CI/CD delivery
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and REST APIs
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
