Overview
As a Senior Estimator, you will develop accurate cost plans for complex civil projects, using established policies to prepare material, labour, and equipment estimates. You will review drawings, explore value-led design options, and identify risks and opportunities to support budgeting decisions. You will mentor junior team members and collaborate with project teams and the supply chain to refine methodologies and pricing. You will manage estimates through Candy and Cost X, tracking changes as inputs mature, and ensure alignment with project objectives and client expectations. Responsibilities
- Prepare costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment following SZC policies
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure accurate estimates
- Oversee design options and value engineering while assessing project attractiveness
- Mentor and support junior team members
- Record assumptions, identify risks and opportunities, and contribute to risk pricing
- Liaise with project team and supply chain to align methodologies and principles
- Oversee or develop first-principles labour, plant, material, subcontract pricing in Candy Estimating Software
- Check bills of quantities for alliance pricing using Cost X
- Record and track changes to the estimate as inputs mature
Key requirements
- Proficient in Excel and similar software
- Excellent client-facing/communication skills
- Experience with Candy Estimating Software
- Experience with RIB Cost X Quantification & Estimating Software
- Experience with AACE estimating principles and maturity
- Infrastructure main contractor background in civil engineering (or equivalent commercial/operational background)
- Chartered status desirable (ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB etc)
