Help us tell the stories that make a difference.

The Childrens Cancer Unit Charity is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and experienced Communications Officer to join our small, dedicated team.

Established in 1984, we support the Childrens Cancer and Haematology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, helping to provide specialist staff, vital equipment, research and practical support for children and young people with cancer and blood disorders and their families.

We’re looking for someone who can help us tell the story of that work, demonstrate the difference our supporters make and inspire more people to get involved.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on communications professional who enjoys creating engaging content, developing ideas and seeing them through from start to finish.

Working closely with our Chief Executive and wider team, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the Charity’s communications across social media, digital platforms, website, PR, campaigns and supporter communications.

You’ll help us share the impact of our work, celebrate our supporters and strengthen awareness of the Charity throughout Northern Ireland.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging content across our social media and digital channels.
  • Creating graphics, photography and video content that brings our work to life.
  • Managing and updating our website and developing email communications.
  • Identifying stories and opportunities to showcase the impact of the Charity’s work.
  • Developing communications to support fundraising campaigns, events and partnerships.
  • Producing written content, press releases, newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Monitoring performance and identifying ways to strengthen our communications.

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines creativity with strong organisational skills and a proactive approach.

You’ll have at least three years’ relevant experience in communications, marketing, PR or digital communications, with a proven ability to independently plan and deliver communications activity.

You’ll be confident writing engaging content for different audiences, managing social media, creating graphics and producing straightforward photography and video content.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes initiative, spots opportunities and enjoys making things happen, rather than waiting to be told what to do.

You’ll also have excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement and the sensitivity needed to communicate appropriately with children, young people, families, healthcare professionals and supporters.

Experience in the charity sector would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.

What we offer

Alongside the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of children and families across Northern Ireland, we offer an attractive employment package including:

  • 28 days’ annual leave plus 11 statutory holidays.
  • Fixed Christmas closure and an additional day off for your birthday.
  • Hybrid and flexible working opportunities.
  • 5% employer pension contribution.
  • Enhanced sickness and family-friendly benefits.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.

You’ll be joining a friendly, committed team where your ideas, creativity and contribution will be valued.
