Job Description:

Our client is a growing academic content business providing digital research resources to university libraries and higher education institutions worldwide. They’re looking for a commercially driven Head of Global Sales to lead international growth, strengthen customer relationships and to grow and develop the current sales team.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you’ll take ownership of the global sales strategy across established and emerging territories. You’ll create a clear sales vision, build a strong pipeline and identify opportunities to grow both new and existing business.

This is a strategic role, but very much a hands-on one. You’ll stay close to customers, visit universities, attend industry conferences and lead important sales conversations. You’ll manage two direct reports alongside external sales agents, with scope to shape and grow the team as the business develops.

There’s plenty of opportunity to make the role your own. You’ll assess the current sales operation, introduce new ideas and explore opportunities across the UK, US and developing international markets, while strengthening customer retention and improving sales processes.

About you

You’ll be an ambitious, commercially minded sales professional who enjoys combining strategy with delivery. You’ll be comfortable operating within a growing SME, bringing fresh ideas while also rolling up your sleeves and getting involved directly in sales.

You’ll thrive in a flexible, collaborative environment where you have the freedom to influence direction, try new approaches and make a visible impact.

Must haves

  • Strong sales experience within academic / higher education publishing
  • Good knowledge of universities, academic libraries and institutional buying
  • Previous management experience, including direct reports and/or external sales partners
  • Experience managing complex, consultative sales cycles
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to spot opportunities for growth
  • Willingness to travel regular across the UK and internationally as needed

Experience selling primary source collections would be particularly advantageous, although experience with digital academic content or research products would also be highly relevant.

Company

You’ll be joining an established, family-run SME with a close-knit team and ambitious plans for growth and offering plenty of flexibility and the opportunity to get involved across the wider business. This is a permanent, full-time role working primarily remote, with regular travel to the company’s West Yorkshire office – at least once a month, ideally once a week but they can be flexible on this.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary dependent on experience
  • Attractive sales commission structure
  • Car allowance / company car
  • 25 days’ annual leave
  • Remote and flexible working
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • UK and international travel opportunities

We treat all employees and job applicants fairly and equally regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, age, disability or union membership status.
