Job Description:

Our client is a long-established manufacturing business based in Limavady, supplying bespoke timber products to customers across the UK and Ireland.

They are now looking to strengthen their engineering function with an experienced Mechanical Fitter. This is a practical, plant-based position suited to someone who enjoys working with machinery, solving engineering problems and getting involved in improvement work rather than simply responding to breakdowns.

Youll have a key role in keeping the production environment running efficiently, working closely with colleagues across the site and supporting the reliability of a range of industrial equipment.

What You’ll Be Involved In

The role will give you responsibility across both day-to-day maintenance and longer-term engineering improvements, including:

  • Maintaining and repairing production machinery and associated plant.
  • Investigating equipment failures and identifying the cause of recurring mechanical issues.
  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance to improve equipment reliability.
  • Working on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including diagnosis and repair.
  • Assisting with machinery installations, modifications and engineering upgrades.
  • Supporting improvements designed to increase plant performance and reduce production interruptions.
  • Using engineering drawings and system diagrams to understand and resolve faults.
  • Completing welding and fabrication work as required.
  • Working alongside production teams to respond quickly to mechanical issues.
  • Contributing to a safe, organised and efficient engineering environment.

Your Background

Were looking for an experienced maintenance engineer who can demonstrate:

  • Completion of a recognised time-served mechanical apprenticeship and relevant qualification.
  • Around 35 years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical engineering and practical fault-finding ability.
  • Experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics and industrial machinery.
  • A good understanding of preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, assess the cause and implement effective repairs.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.
  • Welding and fabrication capability.
  • A methodical and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to work effectively without constant supervision while also contributing to a wider maintenance team.
  • A reliable, hardworking and safety-conscious approach.

Additional Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Heavy plant or other industrial machinery.
  • Major machinery installations, upgrades or modifications.
  • Manual machining, including lathe and milling machine work.
  • Electrical maintenance, fault finding or an additional electrical qualification.

Why Consider the Role?

This is an opportunity to join an established local manufacturing business where the maintenance function plays an important part in keeping the wider operation moving.

The role offers a varied workload across breakdown maintenance, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, machinery improvement and installation work, making it a good fit for a mechanically strong engineer who enjoys variety and practical problem solving.
