Chief Information & Technology Officer

This C-suite post at Academy Transformation Trust leads information and technology across 22 academies, reporting to the Chief Executive and leading the Head of Data Strategy and IT Director. The work centres on setting a coherent direction, modernising a technology estate in need of substantial development and connecting systems so information supports decisions. Home based with regular travel between academies, the post also shares wider responsibility for the trust’s direction. Schools experience is not required, but visa sponsorship is not available.

What the job involves

• Set a coherent direction for information and technology across the trust
• Lead modernisation of systems and infrastructure and connect them
• Lead enterprise architecture and organisational intelligence
• Lead cyber security and resilience
• Lead transformation, AI and commercial strategy
• Build the capability to welcome new academies
• Ensure the right people have the right information at the right time, in the right form
• Ensure pupils and colleagues have secure, accessible and reliable technology
• Help colleagues improve how work happens across the trust
• Lead the Head of Data Strategy and IT Director through expert colleagues
• Share responsibility for trust-wide decisions on education, people, finance, estates, organisational design, risk and growth

What’s required

Experience

• Substantial, current technology expertise applied at organisational scale
• Record of modernising complex systems and infrastructure
• Evidence of improving a technology environment that needed significant development, including the choices made and results achieved
• Record of improving how an organisation uses information to make decisions
• Senior leadership as a CIO, CTO, CITO, CDIO or equivalent, or through another senior route

Skills & knowledge

• Moving between corporate strategy and the technical substance of major decisions
• Understanding how infrastructure, platforms, integration and security affect cost, resilience, usability and future capability
• Leading expert colleagues while creating clarity and sustaining delivery
• Learning a new context, respecting its expertise and judging which lessons transfer
