Employer Partnerships Executive – Youth Mentor Programme – Southampton

Company: Get Set UK
Apply for the Employer Partnerships Executive – Youth Mentor Programme – Southampton
Location: Southampton
Job Description:

Win the employer. Give a young person a start.

Most sales jobs end with a signed deal. In this one, the deal is where the result begins: a young person, aged 18 to 24, walking into a new job because you opened the door.

If you are comfortable calling someone who has never heard of us, and you know what to say next, you already have the skill. On the Youth Mentor Programme you aim it at employers across sectors, to create the jobs our young people can move into.

The opportunity

You will build a broad, active network of employers, find those with real vacancies, understand what they need and turn conversations into suitable roles. You will work closely with Employment Advisors, so the opportunities you win match what young people want and can do. Then you stay with each one through introductions, interviews and the job start.

This is a sales role, and it is visible. Targets are clear and they do not change, your results show in the pipeline for everyone to see, and nobody will do the prospecting for you. Not every employer will be receptive, so you will need resilience. You also need to want to understand the commercials: what the contract says and why we need the outputs. Wanting to help young people is a great start, but this is not a role to try and see how it goes. Colleagues and young people will be relying on what you bring.

What you’ll be doing

  • Approaching employers who do not yet know us, by phone, online, face to face and through local Business Boards and Employer Networks.
  • Understanding each employer’s workforce needs, then turning those conversations into quality vacancies across different sectors and locations.
  • Keeping an accurate CRM pipeline, and using local labour-market information and young people’s demand to decide where to focus.
  • Coordinating introductions, interviews and job starts with Employment Advisors, and keeping in touch after the start so concerns surface early.
  • Delivering agreed employer engagement, opportunity and job start targets.

What you’ll need

Essential (you need all of these):

  • Experience in B2B sales, account management, business development or a comparable employer-facing role, such as employer engagement or recruitment.
  • Evidence of winning new business, customers or employer opportunities, and of converting conversations into measurable results.
  • Experience of building a new prospect pipeline as well as managing established relationships.
  • Confidence starting conversations with decision-makers, with a clear objective, good questions and something of value to offer.
  • Willingness to handle the hard parts of sales, including negotiation, and to work autonomously and be assessed openly on what you deliver.
  • Commercial awareness, balancing the number of opportunities with their quality and suitability for young people.
  • Confident use of CRM systems and Microsoft 365, and the ability to read pipeline and conversion data.
  • Being able to drive and cover the delivery area, including rural locations.
  • No specific qualifications are required.

Desirable (welcome, not required): experience in employability, careers advice or publicly funded employment programmes; a sales, recruitment or business development qualification.

What good looks like in this role

These describe how we work. They are not extra requirements.

  • Deliver results:You review your pipeline and conversion honestly, own it when a deal falls through, and change your approach.
  • Business acumen:You understand how our contract works, how your results support it, and what is changing in your local employer market.
  • People and Communication:You communicate clearly and respectfully with employers, colleagues and young people, and work closely with Employment Advisors.
  • Get it right:You do what you say you will do, describe opportunities truthfully, and follow safeguarding and data requirements.
