Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Nutrition Nurse Specialist to join our established multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with a passion for nutrition support to play a key role in improving patient outcomes through expert assessment, intervention, education and service development.

The successful candidate will provide specialist nursing support to patients with complex nutritional needs across a range of clinical settings, working closely with dietitians, medical staff, ward teams and community colleagues. The post holder will:

  • Provide specialist nutritional nursing assessment, advice and support for patients with complex nutritional needs.
  • Support the management and monitoring of patients requiring enteral feeding and nutritional interventions.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans in collaboration with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Act as a specialist resource for colleagues, providing education, training and clinical guidance on nutritional care.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, guidelines and care pathways relating to nutrition support.
  • Participate in service development, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
  • Support safe discharge planning and continuity of nutritional care across acute and community settings.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure care is delivered in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards and national guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with dietitians, consultants, pharmacists, speech and language therapists, community teams and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Promote best practice in nutritional screening, assessment and management across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of service performance and support initiatives to improve patient outcomes and experience.
