Live Captioning/Streaming Project Manager – Contractor

In this freelance role you will oversee live captioning and streaming projects, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deploy streaming infrastructure. You’ll lead real-time troubleshooting and integrate captions, transcripts, and translations with live content. The position emphasizes accessibility standards and collaboration with vendors to scale media outputs. Responsibilities

• Oversee live captioning and streaming projects from conception to delivery
• Collaborate with broadcast, engineering, IT, and accessibility teams to define requirements and timelines
• Configure and deploy streaming infrastructure and captioning tools (OBS, Wirecast, YouTube Live, Twitch, Zoom)
• Ensure ADA/WCAG compliance and live-captioning regulations
• Troubleshoot real-time issues during broadcasts to minimize downtime
• Develop workflows to integrate live captions, transcripts, and translations with live content
• Manage relationships with third-party vendors, freelancers, and providers

Key requirements

• Experience with live streaming platforms and encoders (OBS, Wirecast, vMix, Wowza, Restream)
• Knowledge of RTMP, HLS, WebRTC and other streaming protocols
• Experience with CDN services (Akamai, Cloudflare)
• Understanding of server-side and client-side streaming architectures
• Strong real-time captioning knowledge (stenography, CART, ASR)
• Experience with captioning tools (Ai-Media, EEG Falcon, CaptionSync, StreamText)
• Knowledge of caption formats (SRT, VTT, SCC) and quality best practices
• Troubleshooting audio/video quality, latency, and synchronization issues
• Familiarity with accessibility features in live streams (closed captions, transcripts)
• Project management: multi-project handling, deadlines, cross-time-zone collaboration
