Company: Harrington Starr
Apply for the Anti-Money Laundering Officer
Location: London
Job Description:

We’re partnering with a high-growth UK fintech/payments business to appoint an experienced MLRO to lead its financial crime framework and play a key role in its next phase of growth.

This is a senior, hands‑on opportunity reporting directly into the CEO and Board, with significant influence across the business and responsibility for ensuring the organisation maintains a robust, scalable and commercially practical financial crime environment.

The role will focus on:

  • Owning and developing the firm’s AML/CTF and financial crime framework
  • Providing independent oversight, challenge and escalation of financial crime risk
  • Leading the financial crime risk assessment, risk appetite and associated MI/KRIs
  • Overseeing KYC/KYB, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring and sanctions frameworks
  • Ensuring effective identification, investigation and reporting of SARs
  • Developing the annual MLRO plan and wider financial crime strategy
  • Providing regular reporting and challenge to senior management and the Board
  • Acting as a key point of contact for the FCA and supporting regulatory enquiries/reviews
  • Working closely with Product, Technology, Operations, Risk and Commercial teams to embed effective controls
  • Providing financial crime input into new products, markets, payment corridors and international expansion
  • Playing a significant role in the company’s UK EMI authorisation programme

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years’ experience across financial services, compliance, financial crime or a related regulated environment
  • Significant experience within payments, e-money, fintech, banking or financial services
  • Previous experience as an MLRO or senior financial crime leader
  • Proven experience of successfully securing UK EMI authorisation or playing a significant role in an EMI regulatory application
  • Strong knowledge of UK AML/CTF requirements and the FCA regulatory framework
  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing financial crime frameworks, rather than simply operating within an established framework
  • Strong understanding of KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring, sanctions, EDD and SARs
  • Experience working directly with Boards, senior management, regulators and external advisers
  • Relevant AML, financial crime, compliance or risk qualifications such as ICA or ACAMS would be advantageous
