Summary

Historic England is the public organisation that brings new life to heritage to build a better future for every place and everyone.

Historic England has a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Recruitment Adviser.

This is a full time, 9 month fixed term position and the salary is £35,000 per annum.

The location of this role is Swindon, inclusive with hybrid working.

We offer a wide benefits package including a competitive defined benefit pension scheme to which we make 28.97% employer contributions, a generous 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, free entry into English Heritage sites across the country and development opportunities to ensure you achieve your goals.

What you will be doing

As Recruitment Adviser, you will deliver ‘experienced hire’ recruitment across the whole of Historic England (HE), taking the lead in providing evidence-led creative advice and solutions to support recruiting managers to effectively market vacancies and assess candidates, whilst ensuring the candidate experience is positive and in line with our brand.

Reporting to the Early Careers and Recruitment Manager, you will take a lead role on our strategic and routine BAU (business as usual) recruitment activity, providing direct advice and operational support. You will find creative solutions to recruitment challenges and influence decisions through a developed understanding of the organisation and our objectives. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships, enabling us to achieve our corporate objectives will also be a key element of the role.

Whilst the focus of this role is on experienced hires, you will also support our work on early careers recruitment and onboarding.

Who we are looking for

Previous experience of working within a busy internal recruitment function at adviser level

Recent responsibility for experienced hire recruitment from sourcing to onboarding

Experience of working with social media and recruitment partners either creating content and/or analysing data

Experience working with Applicant Tracking Systems

Ability to coordinate and manage various deadlines and conflicting requirements

We do not use CV application for the majority of our hiring processes. You will answer a selection of questions that allow our hiring teams to test your skills and suitability for the role.

At Historic England, we value the expertise and individuality each candidate brings and want to hear about this in your own words. If you require the use or AI tools or other resources to support your application, we ask that all information is factually accurate, original, and reflects your own experience. To best represent yourself, we encourage you to write in your own words and use AI-generated content only as inspiration—not as direct input.

Provisional interview dates: w/c 9th or 16th November 2026

Historic England only accepts applications through our authorised recruitment platform, Applied. We will never ask applicants to pay any fee or provide payment details during the recruitment process.
