Job Description:

We’ve won government funding to research how schools can identify special educational needs earlier and more fairly in pupils who are learning English as an additional language. We need someone to run the project.

About us

FlashAcademy® is a UK learning and assessment platform for people learning English as an additional language, with more than 700,000 learners across over 2,400 schools, colleges and workplaces.

The project

It’s a twelve-month study in schools across England, in four stages:

  • October to December 2026: project plan, risk register, ethics application, data protection and safeguarding paperwork, and school recruitment
  • January to February 2027: ethics approval, data sharing agreements, consent and the start of fieldwork
  • March to July 2027: sittings with 400 to 800 pupils, case file reviews by educational psychologists and face-to-face assessments
  • August to September 2027: usability and commercial reports, interviews with schools, trusts and local authorities, the final report and a plan for phase two

Your part in it

You’ll own the plan and keep it moving. You’ll write monthly reports and milestone evidence for the funder’s monitoring provider, and flag any change to dates or scope early. You’ll coordinate educational psychologists, a psychometrician, school staff and our own team. You’ll report to our Chief Executive.

What you’ll need

  • Experience managing research with people, ideally in schools or with children
  • Experience writing or leading an ethics application and running informed consent
  • A record of delivering against fixed funder milestones
  • Careful record-keeping: plans, risk registers, decision notes and version records
  • The ability to get results from colleagues outside your line
  • Knowledge of research data protection and school safeguarding
  • An enhanced DBS check (we’ll give you safeguarding training)

It helps if you have

  • Experience with SEND, EAL or educational psychology services
  • Experience with funders such as UKRI, NIHR or the Education Endowment Foundation
  • A project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM
  • Experience of working alongside a software team

The role

Full time and hybrid, with regular travel to schools. Fixed term to 31 October 2027. You can start as soon as you’re available and by January 2027 at the latest.
