Senior Software Engineer – Global KYC and Onboarding

Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Wise, you own large, impactful projects within the KYC and onboarding domain. You shape the technical roadmap for scalable, compliant backend systems that power verification journeys for millions of users. You collaborate across cross-functional teams to integrate risk and mitigation systems, improving reliability and security. You will push for data-driven decisions and mentor peers, contributing to a high-performance engineering culture. This role offers a chance to advance Wise’s mission of enabling global financial access through robust, user-friendly verification technology.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical roadmap for areas of ownership, addressing debt, reliability, scalability, and security
• Design and implement robust backend systems with clean APIs that hide internal complexity
• Drive integration with risk and mitigation systems to ensure regulatory compliance
• Identify and lead cross-team initiatives to solve impactful problems
• Deliver large-scale, technically complex projects with a focus on customer impact

Key requirements

• 4+ years of software development experience
• Experience with asynchronous message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and architecting highly scalable microservices
• Strong product mindset with customer experience and regulatory compliance focus
• Data-driven decision making and ability to handle ambiguous problems
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Commitment to clean, testable, maintainable, and high-performance code
• Proven track record delivering large-scale, organizationally complex technical deliveries
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, advanced query optimization, and data lifecycle management
