Ocean Freight Import Operations

Overview

In this Ocean Import Operator role, you own end-to-end import shipments, from booking to delivery, for a Bradford-based freight forwarding business. You’ll coordinate documentation, rates, and customs while keeping customers informed and building strong relationships. You’ll work across agents, lines, and hauliers to ensure smooth, on-time shipments and share proactive updates. Responsibilities

• Manage ocean import shipments (FCL/LCL) from booking through to delivery
• Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, hauliers and customers
• Arrange bookings, monitor arrivals and coordinate deliveries
• Prepare and verify shipping documentation
• Coordinate customs clearance with required information available
• Provide accurate updates and resolve delays or queries
• Obtain rates, prepare quotations and manage shipment costs
• Maintain records and process invoicing
• Build and maintain responsive customer relationships

Key requirements

• Previous ocean import experience within freight forwarding
• Understanding of import process from origin to delivery
• Confidence liaising with customers, overseas agents and suppliers
• Strong organisation and attention to detail
• Ability to manage several shipments and deadlines
• Proactive problem-solving and clear communication
