Senior Software Engineer I – Risk Control & Governance

Overview

As a Senior Product Engineer in Wise’s Risk & Control Governance team, you will build the governance, assurance, and data foundations that ensure risk decisions are trustworthy, explainable, and auditable at scale. You’ll work at the intersection of the Risk API platform, Product, and FinCrime to create systems that enable confidence across risk assessments. You’ll design data trust, continuous assurance, and auditability capabilities that support regulatory evidence generation and scalable risk governance. This is a chance to shape the governance layer of a high-impact platform and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data governance foundations (ownership, lineage, quality monitoring)
• Design continuous monitoring and validation to verify control effectiveness
• Implement end-to-end audit trails and explainability tooling
• Create scalable, high-throughput solutions across risk domains
• Integrate governance capabilities with the Risk API platform
• Develop data contracts and lineage tracking to enable traceability from risk decisions to source data
• Deliver automated monitoring to detect drift, false positives/negatives, and coverage gaps
• Collaborate with Risk API, Product, and FinCrime teams on contracts and integration patterns

Key requirements

• Backend engineering experience with high-throughput, data-intensive systems
• Proficiency with Kafka, SQL and NoSQL databases, and scalable design
• Experience with data quality frameworks, data pipelines, or lineage tracking
• Strong systems thinking for distributed architectures
• Ownership mentality and ability to operate with ambiguity
