Principal / Senior EICA Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide authoritative electrical design leadership across a portfolio of water sector projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, compliant and cost-effective solutions. You will align with discipline leads and project stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical designs while promoting engineering excellence. You will influence project outcomes through governance, risk management and technical review, shaping solutions across the project lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role with a clear impact on safety, efficiency and delivery at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate complex electrical design delivery within water and wastewater projects
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams
• Develop innovative, practical and risk-balanced engineering solutions
• Ensure electrical designs are safe, sustainable, compliant, buildable and cost-effective
• Produce, review, and approve calculations, specs, reports, drawings, and design docs
• Support major bids and contribute to delivery strategies
• Act as technical reviewer ensuring high governance and QA standards
• Manage technical delivery balancing programme, cost, quality and resources
• Identify and manage technical risks and address issues proactively
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to meet objectives
• Mentor engineers and designers to grow technical capability across the business
• Promote continuous improvement, safety, customer focus and engineering excellence

Key requirements

• Electrical Engineering degree (BEng, MEng or equivalent)
• Significant experience in electrical design within UK water and wastewater industry
• Strong understanding of LV/HV power distribution, MCCs, standby generation, power systems
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design projects
• Ability to develop practical and economical engineering solutions
• Understanding of automation, control and instrumentation systems (EICA)
• Excellent technical judgement and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication of technical proposals to clients and stakeholders
